Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has begun production on Scam 2010, the third chapter in the Scam franchise, with Siddhant Bodke in the lead role. The series, announced by Sony LIV on August 12, 2026, will explore the rise and fall of Subrata Roy and his Sahara India business empire.

Mehta also has multiple other projects in various stages of production, including the crime thriller Barabanki, the AI-driven food show Khana Dil Se, and the big-budget zombie film Pralay. The director, born on April 29, 1968, in Mumbai, has been a prominent figure in Indian entertainment since the 1990s.

Scam 2010 Begins Production

Production on Scam 2010 began in August 2026. The series is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment and will stream on Sony LIV. It is based on Tamal Bandyopadhyay’s book, Sahara: The Untold Story.

The third season follows Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story and Scam 2003: The Telgi Story. Mehta directed the first season and served as showrunner on the second. He returns to direct Scam 2010.

Siddhant Bodke plays Subrata Roy, the founder of Sahara India Pariwar. Roy passed away in November 2023 at the age of 75. The series will trace the journey from small savings schemes to the public scrutiny that followed.

Mehta said in a statement, ‘Scam 2010 is a story about ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both. It looks at how one of India’s largest business empires was built on belief — and what happened when that belief ran out. It tells the fascinating story of the rise of an empire and the man who mistook it for invincibility.’

Bodke said, ‘What floored me was the complexity of the lead’s personality and the scale of the show. His passion, power, flaws, rise and eventual downfall make him an incredibly fascinating character to portray. The experience has been nothing short of thrilling for me, and I have relished the opportunity to play such a layered character under the guidance of someone like Hansal Mehta.’

Deepak Segal, Chief Content Officer of Applause Entertainment, said, ‘Scam has become much more than a franchise for us. The success of Scam comes with a lot of responsibility, as we are extremely conscious of the expectations that people have from us.’

Bipasha Basu Returns with Barabanki

Bipasha Basu is making her acting comeback with Mehta’s crime thriller series Barabanki. She began shooting in Mumbai in August 2026. This marks her return to the screen nearly six years after her last appearance in the OTT thriller Dangerous (2020).

Barabanki is based on retired IPS officer Aloke Lal’s book, The Barabanki Narcos: Busting India’s Most Notorious Drug Cartel. Set in 1984, the series chronicles the true story of a massive opium raid operation led by Lal in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district.

Alongside Basu, the series features Sunny Kaushal and Vishal Jethwa in prominent roles.

AI-Driven Food Series Khana Dil Se

Mehta is returning to food storytelling after three decades with Khana Dil Se – An AI Journey Through India’s Kitchen. The AI-driven cooking series is produced by True Story Films in collaboration with Collective Studios.
