Abhishek Pathak has directed Drishyam: The Conclusion, the third and final installment of the Hindi Drishyam franchise. The film was released in theaters on October 2, 2026, and marks the definitive end of Vijay Salgaonkar’s story.<\/p>\n

Pathak returns to the director’s chair after helming Drishyam 2 in 2022. He also produced the first Hindi Drishyam, which was released in 2015. The new film is presented by Star Studio18 and produced by Panorama Studios.<\/p>\n

A New Story, Not a Remake<\/h3>\n

Unlike the first two Hindi films, Drishyam: The Conclusion is not adapted from the Malayalam franchise. The screenplay is credited to Pathak, Aamil Keeyan Khan, and Parveez Shaikh. The story is original and departs entirely from Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam Drishyam 3, which was released in May 2026.<\/p>\n

Pathak said the decision to write a fresh story came after Drishyam 2. He said, ‘With Drishyam 2, we had base material \u2014 call it an adaptation or inspiration. But people often forget the director’s craft. Some still attached tags that I felt were a bit unfair just because of raw material similarities. So, the moment I wrapped Part 2, I decided to take on the challenge of writing a completely new story and screenplay.’<\/p>\n

The screenplay took about two years to complete. Pathak said he read fan theories online before identifying gaps in Vijay Salgaonkar’s story to build the new plot around. He described the process as a personal challenge and credited Ajay Devgn for giving him complete creative freedom.<\/p>\n

Darker Territory for Vijay Salgaonkar<\/h3>\n

Pathak told Variety India that the final chapter takes Vijay into darker territory. He said, ‘Whenever Vijay does something, he opens up two more questions. I think those were the two unanswered questions we felt remained. That’s the whole idea we wanted to take the character ahead \u2014 where he’s going to solve a few questions that he left unanswered in Part Two.’<\/p>\n

The film introduces two new adversaries. Jaideep Ahlawat plays SP Crime Branch Rajveer Singh Tomar, a more brutal and raw officer than Vijay has faced before. Prakash Raj plays a sophisticated lawyer named Indrajith Shetty who uses the mind game rather than brute force.<\/p>\n

Pathak said, ‘Jaideep is playing SP Crime Branch, who is a new entrant in the film, and it’s a new playground. I don’t think any of the characters we’ve seen before in the film have seen this kind of playground.’ He added that Vijay ‘has not faced such a kind of character in any of the parts right now.’<\/p>\n

Regarding Prakash Raj’s role, Pathak said, ‘To bring a very sophisticated, sorted-out lawyer against Vijay Salgaonkar was something very interesting we wanted to do. Because the film is all about the mind game.’<\/p>\n

Returning Cast and New Additions<\/h3>\n

Ajay Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar. Tabu reprises her role as Meera Deshmukh, and Shriya Saran returns as Nandini Salgaonkar. Rajat Kapoor also returns as Mahesh Deshmukh. Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav reprise their roles from the earlier films.<\/p>\n

Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj join the franchise for the first time. Kamlesh Sawant returns as the Marathi-accented cop Gaitonde. Samvedna Suwalka appears as Advocate Gayathri Mohan.<\/p>\n

Ajay Devgn spoke about the new script at FICCI Frames. He said, ‘The original one they did not have Akshay Khanna’s character as such but 3 is a completely new script. They are two very different films. The way Abhishek and the writers have worked so hard on the script for the past maybe two years that it really really gives you a high. The way it has shaped up the scripting and the way Abhishek has made the film, I think it has come out fabulous. That’s when we decided that it should be the conclusion.’<\/p>\n
