The 2026 Bengali film Beporoya stars Adrit Roy as Joy and Aryaa Ray as Rinku in the lead roles. Directed by Abhirup Ghosh, the film was released in theatres on September 18, 2026, under the banner of Shree Venkatesh Films.

The cast also includes veteran actor Shantilal Mukhopadhyay, who plays Rinku’s father. The film marked the big-screen debut of Aryaa Ray, who was previously known as a model.

Lead Actors and Characters

Adrit Roy portrays Joy, a young man whose life takes a dark turn after a painful breakup. The character is shown across a six-year journey, from his teenage years to adulthood.

Aryaa Ray plays Rinku, Joy’s love interest whose decision to end the relationship sets the story in motion. The film was her first feature film role.

Director and Production

Abhirup Ghosh wrote and directed Beporoya. He also handled the screenplay, story, and dialogues for the film.

The film was produced by Shrikant Mohta and Mahendra Soni under the SVF Entertainment banner. The music was composed by Arindom Chatterjee, with the background score by Kevin Roy George.

Subhadeep Naskarr served as the cinematographer, while Sumit handled the editing. Ranajit Gharai was the art director.

Director’s Comments on the Cast

Abhirup Ghosh described Adrit Roy as ‘the heart and soul of Beporoya’. He recalled the time they spent together beyond workshops and screen tests to build the character.

‘I spent a lot of time with him, beyond workshops or screen tests, which created a strong bond. Over time, we effectively got into each other’s heads to ensure clear communication,’ Abhirup said.

About Aryaa Ray, the director said, ‘This is her debut film and this was an extremely complex character for her to portray, but she has worked super hard and sacrificed a lot for this film.’

Release and Box Office

Beporoya was released in cinemas on September 18, 2026, with a runtime of 120 minutes. The film received a UA16+ censor rating.

According to box office reports, the film earned approximately 18 lakh rupees in its first two weeks. It was removed from most Kolkata theatres within two weeks of release.

By the end of its theatrical run, the film was only being shown in two government-run theatres in Kolkata, Radha and Nandan.

Cast’s Reaction to Limited Release

Adrit Roy expressed disappointment on social media about the film’s removal from theatres. He wrote, ‘Our film Beporoya was not promoted. We did not get the support of the industry’s big brothers and sisters who are said to always welcome newcomers and embrace them with love. No one had the time to tweet for us even once.’

The actor also noted that there was no screening or premiere where well-known people could praise the film, ‘even if they did not like it’.

Latest Status

Beporoya completed its theatrical run in late September 2026. The film is no longer showing in most cinemas across Kolkata.
