Taran Adarsh Shares Haiwaan Certification Details as Film Opens to Mixed Reviews

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared certification and runtime details for the Hindi thriller Haiwaan ahead of its theatrical release. The Central Board of Film Certification granted the film a UA 16+ rating on September 8, 2026.

Adarsh posted on X that the film carries an official runtime of 164 minutes and 7 seconds, which is 2 hours, 44 minutes and 7 seconds. He also confirmed the theatrical release date of September 11, 2026.

Haiwaan is directed by Priyadarshan and stars Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. The film marks the on-screen reunion of the two actors after 17 years.

The ensemble cast includes Boman Irani, Saiyami Kher, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Sharib Hashmi, Rajpal Yadav, Rajesh Sharma, Pahal Chaudhary, and Manoj Joshi. The film also features a cameo appearance by Mohanlal, who starred in the original Malayalam version.

Haiwaan is a remake of Priyadarshan’s own 2016 Malayalam film Oppam. The story follows a visually impaired caretaker named Shyam, played by Saif Ali Khan, who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a retired judge.

As Shyam tries to clear his name, he must protect the judge’s secret daughter, Nandini, from a ruthless killer named Parshuram, played by Akshay Kumar. The film is a cat-and-mouse thriller built around the conflict between the two characters.

The film received mixed reviews from critics upon release. Some praised the performances of the lead actors and the technical values, while others criticized the screenplay, pacing, and runtime.

Bollywood Hungama gave the film a 2.5 out of 5 rating and wrote that Haiwaan delivers strong performances and face-offs but is held back by a disjointed screenplay, weak songs, and a flat climax.

The Indian Express review stated that the film is more miss than hit, calling it an unintentional comic police procedural in its second half. The review noted that the reunion of Akshay and Saif was much awaited but neither performance was believable.

Filmfare gave the film a 3 out of 5 rating and praised Saif Ali Khan for playing his role with restraint. The review noted that Akshay Kumar is clearly having fun experimenting with darker material as the antagonist.

On the social media platform X, reactions were split. Some viewers called the film a disaster on arrival, while others praised the dark storyline and intense performances. One user called it a captivating thriller and gave it 3.5 stars.

Haiwaan opened at the box office on September 11, 2026. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected a net of 3 crore rupees across 7,224 shows in India on its first day.

The film recorded an overall occupancy of 12.42 percent during morning shows, which increased to 18.15 percent during night shows. The India gross for day one was approximately 3.60 crore rupees.

With an additional 1 crore rupees gross from overseas markets, the film’s worldwide gross after day one stood at an estimated 4.60 crore rupees. The opening was below expectations for a film headlined by two major stars.

The film faced competition from Hanuman Ansh, which was in its sixth week and still drawing strong audiences, and Mirzapur The Movie, which was in its second week.

Taran Adarsh had previously expressed excitement about Haiwaan in July 2026. He said the film might do well considering it is a reunion of Akshay Kumar with Priyadarshan and Saif Ali Khan after a long time.

Adarsh also shared the film’s runtime and certification details on his official social media handles, which generated significant attention among fans ahead of the release.

As of the latest reports, Haiwaan continues to screen in theaters across India. The film’s performance in the coming days will determine its final box office standing.
