Udta Teer Release Date Shifted to October 9, 2026, Averting Box Office Clash with Haiwaan

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s spy comedy Udta Teer will now release in theatres on October 9, 2026. The film was originally scheduled to arrive on September 11, 2026, where it would have clashed with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s thriller Haiwaan.

The release date change was announced by the makers in August 2026. The film is directed by debutant Akash A. Kaushik and produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.

Udta Teer marks the second on-screen collaboration between Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The two actors previously appeared together in Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, which released earlier in 2026.

Plot and Characters

The film follows Ayushmann Khurrana as Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani spy who is sent on a mission to India. After an accident, he loses his memory and begins to believe he is an Indian counter-terrorism officer.

In the trailer, Sara Ali Khan’s character tells him, ‘Your parents were martyred by Pakistani terrorists.’ The spy then joins India’s counter-terrorism squad and begins arresting Pakistani spies, while his handlers in Pakistan try to remind him of his real identity.

The trailer, which runs for three minutes and eighteen seconds, was released on September 23, 2026. It shows Bilal embracing his new identity as a devoted Indian citizen and fighting for India’s national security.

Cast and Crew

The film features an ensemble cast including Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Suhail Nayyar, Sandeep Anand, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Smita Tambe, and the late Mukul Dev.

Udta Teer is written and directed by Akash A. Kaushik in his directorial debut. The film is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain.

The music is composed by Sachin-Jigar, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The cinematography is handled by Harshvir Oberai, and the editing is by Prerna Saigal.

Trailer Launch and Statements

At the trailer launch event in Mumbai on September 24, 2026, Ayushmann Khurrana spoke about playing a Pakistani spy who chants ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in the film.

Khurrana said, ‘That’s part of the script ya. As an actor, you are ready to do anything. Voh toh hota hi raha hai, har ek spy film mein hota hai. but the difference is that this is a spy comedy. Spy comedy hai, patriotic comedy hai, genre bender hai. Main hamesha script ko pehle dekhta hoon. Whatever the script demands from me, I do. And I am a director’s baby, and he has written a fantastic script.’

Sara Ali Khan also commented on working with Khurrana again. She said, ‘I had a blast, honestly. This film, actually, we shot before Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. But accha tha, alag tha. As an actor, aapko mazza tab aata hai jab ek hi actor ke saath aapki chemistry itni alag ho sakti hai, kyunki jo film aap kar rahe ho, jo kirdaar aap kar rahe ho, vo kitni alag hai.’

Box Office Outlook

Trade analysts have projected a first-day box office collection of Rs 3 to 5 crore nett for Udta Teer. The film will release during the Navratri festive period.

The trailer has generated a mixed response from audiences and critics. Some have praised the film’s unique concept and comic elements, while others have found the trailer less impactful.

Udta Teer is scheduled to release worldwide in cinemas on October 9, 2026.
