Prime Video Releases Babita Singh Reporting, a Crime Drama Starring Nimisha Sajayan

Prime Video has released the Hindi-language crime drama Babita Singh Reporting, starring Nimisha Sajayan as the lead character. The film premiered on the streaming platform on August 28, 2026, following a trailer release on August 21.

The film is written by Amita Vyas and directed by Ambiecka Pandit. It is produced by Sudip Sharma, the creator of the series Kohrra and Paatal Lok, under Film Squad Productions in association with Act Three.

The story follows ASI Babita Singh, also called Baby, an underestimated police officer in Bhopal. Babita is assigned clerical work and frequently belittled by her senior, SI Sethi. At home, her husband and in-laws pressure her to prioritize domestic duties over her career.

While visiting her in-laws in Rewa for her sister-in-law’s godh bharai ceremony, Babita reconnects with her childhood friend Bansi, an artist who makes effigies for the town’s Dussehra celebrations. Bansi is found murdered the following day. Babita begins investigating the death after learning he had requested a meeting with her the night he was killed.

The investigation leads Babita to uncover details about Bansi’s marriage and his relationships. The film balances the murder mystery with her personal struggles against casual sexism and family expectations.

Cast and Performances

The cast includes Nimisha Sajayan as ASI Babita Singh, Barun Sobti as Bansi Seni, and Anshumaan Pushkar as Sharad Vashesht, Babita’s husband. Rajesh Kumar plays SI Sethi, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan plays Karamjeet, a fellow officer.

Sunita Rajwar appears as Babita’s mother-in-law, with Priya Yadav as Guddi and Alina Azeem as Bansi’s daughter. Nawal Shukla plays SHO Nawal Kishore Shukla.

Critics widely praised Sajayan’s performance. A review in Variety India noted that Sajayan looks and moves like an everywoman, and that it is difficult to look away from her face. The review also stated that Barun Sobti’s Bansi appears in only a few scenes but makes an impact big enough to haunt the entire narrative.

Open Magazine wrote that Sajayan speaks with her eyes, and that when her character rebels with quiet purpose, we watch from the sidelines as a tigress awakes.

Reception and Themes

Reviews described the film as a grounded, understated crime drama that prioritizes realism over stylized thriller elements. Several critics highlighted its portrayal of normalized sexism within households and workplaces.

A News18 review noted that the film shows how shaming women can become so normalised that it barely registers as cruelty. The review praised Sajayan for portraying helplessness and insecurity with as much conviction as determination and strength.

Some reviewers found the film’s pacing uneven in its final act. The Bollywood Helpline review stated that the investigation rarely becomes gripping, though the grounded approach to the protagonist was a strength.

Babita Singh Reporting is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video. The film has a runtime of approximately two hours and eleven minutes.
