Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer Sets October 9 Release After Avoiding Box Office Clash with Haiwaan

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s upcoming spy comedy Udta Teer will release in theatres worldwide on October 9, 2026. The film was originally scheduled to arrive on September 11, 2026, the same day as Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s thriller Haiwaan, but the makers have moved the date to avoid a direct box office clash.

The September 11 date was announced in late June 2026. At the time, KVN Productions and Thespian Films confirmed that Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, would open worldwide on that Friday. The announcement poster carried the tagline ‘One obsession. One relentless pursuit. One date you’ll want to remember.’

Udta Teer was also locked for September 11. The date would have created a notable box office battle between two big Bollywood titles. It also set up a father-daughter face-off, as Saif Ali Khan’s Haiwaan was set to release alongside his daughter Sara Ali Khan’s Udta Teer.

Haiwaan Cast and Production

Haiwaan marks the on-screen reunion of Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan after nearly 18 years. The film is directed by Priyadarshan and is an official Hindi adaptation of his 2016 Malayalam thriller Oppam, which starred Mohanlal.

The thriller also features Shriya Pilgaonkar and Saiyami Kher in key roles. Music is composed by Pritam, with production design by Sabu Cyril and cinematography by Divakar Mani. The film is produced by Venkat K Narayana under KVN Productions and Shailaja Desai Fenn under Thespian Films.

When Akshay Kumar announced the project in 2025, he shared a video from the sets and wrote: ‘Hum sab hi hain thode se shaitaan… Koi upar se Saint, koi andar se Haiwaan (we all are a little naughty, someone looks saint while someone is devil from inside) :)) Starting the shoot for #Haiwaan today with my absolute favourite captain of the ship, @priyadarshan.official Sir. Great to be working with Saif after nearly 18 years. Let’s get the haiwaniyat rolling!! @kvn.productions @thespianfilms_ind.’

Udta Teer Release Date Shifted to October

On August 11, 2026, the makers of Udta Teer officially announced the new release date. The spy comedy will now arrive in cinemas on October 9, 2026, during the Navratri period.

An official statement from the makers read: ‘Starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan, UDTA TEER brings together humour, chaos and an entertaining family-friendly narrative, marking Ayushmann’s return to the space of comedy-led entertainers.’

The film is written and directed by Akash A Kaushik in his directorial debut. It is produced by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain under the banners of Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
