SWAT Exiles Not Yet on Netflix as Spin-Off Begins Starz Run

S.W.A.T. Exiles, the spin-off of the long-running CBS procedural S.W.A.T., is not currently available on Netflix. The series premiered on Starz on September 25, 2026, and a potential Netflix release remains under discussion.

Sony Pictures Television, which produces the series, has adopted a windowing strategy for the U.S. market. Starz holds the first domestic window, and the studio has been in second-window conversations with Netflix, according to Deadline.

The original S.W.A.T. series has been available on Netflix for more than three years. All eight seasons of the original show are currently streaming on the platform, which has fueled speculation about the spin-off’s future there.

Starz Premiere and Global Distribution

S.W.A.T. Exiles debuted on Friday, September 25, 2026, on Starz. New episodes are released weekly on Fridays. The first season consists of ten episodes.

The series has also been sold in every major worldwide market. In Canada, it airs on CTV and streams on Crave. In Brazil and Latin America, distribution is handled by Disney+.

In the United States, the show airs on Starz, a pay cable network. A specific time slot for the premiere was not announced.

Cast and Storyline

Shemar Moore reprises his role as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson. The story follows Hondo after a high-profile mission goes wrong, pulling him out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance experimental S.W.A.T. unit.

The new unit is made up of young, unpredictable recruits. Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn the squad into a capable team.

The new cast includes Ronen Rubinstein, Freddy Miyares, Lucy Barrett, Zyra Gorecki, and Adain Bradley. Original cast members Jay Harrington, Patrick St. Esprit, and David Lim also appear in recurring roles.

Justin Ning, known for his work on Lucifer, serves as executive producer and showrunner. Moore is also an executive producer.

Production History and Cast Drama

CBS canceled the original S.W.A.T. in 2025 after eight seasons. It was the third time the network had canceled the show. Shortly after the cancellation, Sony Pictures Television announced a spin-off focused on Hondo.

Reports of behind-the-scenes tension emerged when some original cast members, including Jay Harrington and David Lim, were initially not approached for the spin-off. The situation drew attention from fans and media.

Moore addressed the changes in a May 2025 Instagram video. ‘Nobody likes change. I understand that. I get it 100 percent. But without change, you can’t grow,’ he said. ‘You can’t win without taking your lumps. It ain’t easy making it in the game of Hollywood. It ain’t. TV shows don’t last eight years anymore. The game has changed. But S.W.A.T. Exiles, baby! S.W.A.T. Exiles. Bigger, bolder. S.W.A.T. on steroids.’

He continued: ‘I’m not saying I’m Tom Brady, but I’m the Tom Brady of S.W.A.T. That’s not arrogant. That’s not ego. It’s a fact. I’m the quarterback. I’m Shemar Moore, a.k.a Hondo. But I had a squad. A strong squad. A family. A team. And I would be remiss If I didn’t say out loud to the world and to them — because I know they’re watching this — I love you. I respect you. I appreciate you.’

Harrington and Lim were later confirmed to appear in the first season. David Lim was the first cast member to publicly address the drama, saying, ‘I’d be lying if I said the rollout…’ in a statement that was partially reported by Us Weekly.

Netflix Prospects

The possibility of S.W.A.T. Exiles arriving on Netflix depends on the conclusion of the Starz window. No deal has been confirmed. A report from Stream Tracker on September 25, 2026, listed the show as ‘Not available’ on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and other major platforms.

Sony Pictures Television has not announced a timeline for when the second-window deal might be finalized. The studio’s priority has been the Starz launch and international distribution.

Fans of the original series can currently stream all eight seasons on Netflix. The spin-off’s arrival on the platform would depend on the terms of the windowing agreement and the performance of the show on Starz.

The first episode of S.W.A.T. Exiles is available on Starz and the Starz app. New episodes are released weekly on Fridays.
