The Prime Video original film Babita Singh Reporting has received an IMDb rating of 6.3 out of 10, based on more than 1,500 user votes. The investigative drama, starring Nimisha Sajayan in the lead role, premiered on the streaming platform on August 28, 2026.
The film has earned generally positive reviews from critics, with several publications highlighting its grounded portrayal of everyday patriarchy and Sajayan’s performance. The New Indian Express gave the film 3.5 out of 5 stars in its review.
Directed by Ambiecka Pandit and written by Amita Vyas, the film is produced by Sudip Sharma, the creator of the series Paatal Lok and Kohrra. Sharma serves as executive producer on the project.
The story follows Babita Singh, known as Baby, an assistant sub-inspector in Bhopal who is suspended after accepting blame for a senior officer’s mistake. She travels to her husband’s hometown in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, where she reunites with a childhood friend named Bansi, played by Barun Sobti. Bansi is murdered shortly after their meeting, and Babita begins an unofficial investigation into his death.
The cast includes Anshuman Pushkar as Babita’s husband Sharad, along with Sunita Rajwar, Priyanka Setia, Priya Yadav, Ravi Jhankal, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in supporting roles.
One IMDb user review praised Sajayan’s performance while criticizing the film’s final act. The review stated that the movie ‘easily deserved a perfect 10/10, but it completely lost its track in the last 15 to 20 minutes.’ The same user noted that ‘the rating is only for Nimisha Sajayan’s performance’ and added that ‘it is always the story and the script that makes a movie, not the cast.’
The Tribune described Sajayan’s portrayal of Babita as one where the actor ‘plays Baby with reckless surrender, as though she has been here before.’

The Telegraph India noted that the film is ‘less interested in the mechanics of solving the crime than in the everyday conditions that a woman, trying to solve the murder, has to deal with, both at home and at work.’
The Statesman observed that the film captures ‘the minute details’ of gender discrimination and gives ‘strength to those who need it.’
The Quint described Sajayan’s performance as ‘terrific’ and compared the character in spirit to ‘the rookie cousin of Paatal Lok’s Hathiram Chaudhary.’
Esquire India highlighted the film’s examination of masculinity, noting that it presents men who are ’emotionally expressive, caring, eager to be present as husband and friend.’
News18 focused on the film’s depiction of casual sexism, pointing to a line in the film where Babita is asked, ‘Tumko ye job karne ki kya zarurat hai? Hum hai na.’ The outlet noted that the question sounds reassuring on the surface but carries a more uncomfortable implication about a woman’s need to justify her career.
Babita Singh Reporting is currently available for streaming on Prime Video. As of September 2026, the film maintains its 6.3 rating on IMDb with no announced plans for a theatrical release or sequel.
